Jahlil Okafor tells Philadelphia 76ers he wants a buyout or a trade

Earlier this week, Philadelphia chose to not pick up the fourth-year, $6.3 million option on Okafor's rookie deal, after having tried to trade him for some time. The 21-year-old native of Fort Smith, Arkansas has missed 62 games in his first two seasons, including a two-game suspension by the team in his rookie year due getting involved in a Boston bar fight. Bryan didn't think that would be a good idea because he said that he'd be giving me away to a team for free.

Okafor got selected by the 76ers with the third-overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.

"I'm unsure if I'm still on the team".

With the Sixers now 3-4 to begin the new season, it will be interesting to see what happens with Okafor. "I want the team to do great things, but at the same time I want to play". The Celtics might want Okafor only after a buyout - i.e., if they don't have to surrender any assets to Philadelphia.

Okafor confirmed that he asked team president Bryan Colangelo for a buyout, criticizing the team's decision to wait on trading him because his value is now low.

Okafor said he would like the 76ers to trade him or buy him out of his contract, reports NBC Sports Philadelphia's Jessica Camerato. I know a buyout is one of the options where I get an opportunity to play elsewhere and to get on the court.

Meanwhile, a league source tells Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer that trade discussions will determine whether or not the Sixers pick up Okafor's option for 2018-19.

76ers head coach Brett Brown said Okafor is out of the rotation and would have to earn the chance to leap other players ahead of him. "I'm not playing here and at the end of this season, I'm an unrestricted free agent". In an offense where Okafor, Embiid, and C Nerlens Noel starred for the front court, the floor spacing was often cramped an uneven, which prompted the 76ers to reduce Okafor's minutes, leaving him as the odd man out.
