Former Democrat chairwoman Donna Brazile accuses Clinton campaign of 'unethically' hijacking party

The former interim head of the Democratic Party just accused Hillary Clinton's campaign of "unethical" conduct that "compromised the party's integrity". Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) agreed that the Democratic Party rigged the presidential nomination against Sen. Bernie Sanders from getting the nomination.

But the op-ed doesn't break too much new provable, factual ground, relying more upon Brazile's own perception of the situation and hearsay. Clinton's campaign and its joint fundraising arm, the Hillary Victory Fund, then swooped in to save the day, wiping away 80 percent of the party's remaining debt (about $10 million) in 2016. In a matter of months she found the evidence against the Clinton campaign she hoped she never would. And yet, Brazile wants everyone to believe that she alone unraveled the Great Mystery of Clintonian Control of the DNC.

She said the issue would prove a test of new DNC leader Tom Perez, who will have to inspire "confidence that the party is working for Democrats rather than Democrats are working for the party".

She "couldn't write a news release without passing it by Brooklyn". Debbie Wasserman Schultz, had not been the most active chair in fundraising at a time when President Barack Obama's neglect had left the party in significant debt.

"Wait", I said. "That victory fund was supposed to be for whoever was the nominee, and the state party races".

None of this is truly shocking.

What do you think about Donna Brazile's claims? "One of my goals here as DNC chair is to make sure that the nominating process for 2020 is a process that is totally fair and transparent for everybody". But it's worth noting that Sanders was given a similar opportunity and passed on using it, as Brazile notes. One email chain discussed bringing Sanders's Jewish religion into the campaign, others spoke of him derisively, and in one a lawyer who worked for both Clinton and the DNC advised the committee on how to respond to questions about the Clinton joint fundraising committee.

Last year, Ms Brazile took over as DNC chair after Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz was forced out of the role over leaked emails suggesting she had favoured Ms Clinton during the primary.

Brazile was sacked from CNN and apologized for sharing the questions.

The timeline here is also important.

While it is not unusual for the national political parties to work with the party nominee when it comes to strategy and decisions, Clinton had not yet been selected as the party's nominee.

She additionally pointed out the agreement was signed in August 2015, which granted Clinton control of the party long before she earned the presidential nomination.

"Bernie took this stoically", she wrote.

On November 2, Donna Brazile published an excerpt from her upcoming book, "Hacks", in Politico.

And like all things in politics, Clinton's camp allegedly expected something in return - full control of the party's operations!
