PM Modi in Gujarat, inaugurates ferry service and 'dream project'

He said that with the beginning of this project, the dream of 6.5 crore Gujaratis has been fulfilled.

His visits assume significance as Assembly elections are due in Gujarat in December. This programme may be for a ferry between Ghogha and Dahej but this programme is of vital importance for the entire nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Sunday inaugurate the first phase of the Ghogha-Dahej Ro-Ro ferry service between Saurashtra and the South Gujarat region of his home state.

Modi then boarded the ferry "Island Jade" from Ghogha to travel via sea route to Dahej, which he would reach after an hour-and-a-half, before flying off to Vadodara, where he would address a public rally and inaugurate projects worth Rs 1,140 crore.

Stating that the industries should not be located far from the coastal areas, Modi said, "Ro-ro ferry service will give a big boost to coastal shipping and tourism.

Over the last three years, we have changed that", the prime minister said.

The Model Code of Conduct comes into effect as soon as voting dates are announced, banning politicians from announcing freebies until elections are over.

In the second phase, which is expected to be completed in two months, cars can also be carried between the two towns.

The prime minister had called ferry service his "dream project" while addressing a gathering at Gandhinagar on Monday.

"It is a complex project which involves complicated marine structure of the Gulf of Cambay, on which it is built".

The ferry service would now reduce the travel distance between Saurashtra and South Gujarat from 360 km to 31 km, saving five hours in travel time and money for people frequently travelling between the two regions.

"When I was serving as CM, I faced hostility from the then Central government". Some of the projects include the Vadodara City Command Control Centre, the Waghodiya Regional Water Supply Scheme, and the New Head Office Building of the Bank of Baroda.

The visit on Sunday, will mark PM Modi's third visit to Gujarat in the month of October, after he held a roadshow in Vadnagar on October 8 and addressed party workers near Gandhinagar on October 16.
