LeBron James scored 34 points and piled up 13 assists while serving as the Cavaliers' point guard in Cleveland's 119-112 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday.

He added 13 assists, including a no-look, behind-the-back dish to Jae Crowder for a threee-pointer during Cleveland's 15-3 spurt in the third quarter.

Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg spoke to reporters with regards to LeBron starting at point guard in tonight's game.

James usually handles the ball for Cleveland and is its assists leader on the season, but he played the point because Derrick Rose (sprained left ankle) was out and coach Tyronn Lue sought a bigger lineup.

"Ever since I was a kid I've always learned every position on the floor", James said.

The Bulls got out to a hot start thanks to their dynamic three-point shooting and led by as many as 14 in the first half. And know all the plays, what they're doing and what's the reads. "It makes the job a lot easier for me".

CJ McCollum scored 16 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter and Portland closed the game with a 9-0 run to win its home opener over New Orleans.

LeBron James threw some dazzling passes as the Cavaliers point guard and Twitter loved it. James is pictured on May 17, 2016 in Cleveland, Ohio. Kevin Love put up 20 points and 12 boards. In 37-plus minutes, James was an efficient 13-for-20 shooting with four made threes. Former Cavs point guard Kay Felder had 13 points, all in the first half. The Nets missed three consecutive 3-point shots in the dying moments of the game, with their best player on the night being D'Angelo Russell (29/5/1).

The Cavs, who repeatedly failed to close out on the perimeter, overcame another frightful start and hot shooting by the Bulls to trail just 68-65 at halftime. But that's just the first quality defender who should draw the assignment of guarding the Bulls rookie as both James and Tristan Thompson likely will get time to play against him.

James, who went 9-for-12 from the field and was ideal on four 3-pointers, scored 23 points to offset invisible and scoreless halves by Thompson and Smith, as well as big performances by the Bulls' Markkanen, Holiday and Felder, who combined for 43 points over the opening two quarters.
