Users can experience enjoy "unlimited calling" and "internet services" at Rs 97 every month. The Micromax Bharat 1 has been launched at Rs 2,200 and will be available in retailer stores from October 20.

The Micromax Bharat-1 is essentially pitted against the likes of Jio Phone.

With a combined vision of accelerating the growth of data adoption and providing Internet access to the 500 million plus feature phone users in India, both Micromax and BSNL will work collaboratively to introduce the best consumer mobile experience, the companies said in a joint statement on Tuesday.

For the Micromax Bharat 1 4G VoLTE feature phone, Micromax has joined hands with the government-owned PSU BSNL. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 205 chipset with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of onboard storage. The phone will also come a suite of services from BSNL, along with an option to watch live TV on the phone. If you do not want to use BSNL, you are also free to use the phone with any other telecom operator. While users have to pay an amount of Rs. 1,500 for the JioPhone, Airtel is costing Rs. 2,899 from the customers who're looking to purchase its Airtel 4G Smartphone aka Karbonn A40 Indian. Connectivity features including 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, GPS, USB 2.0. Reliance Jio's effectively free offering of low-priced 4G enabled VoLTE handset has triggered a new form of handset revolution in the Indian telecom sector, and now BSNL is the latest contender in this new-age telecom war. On the battery front, the handset sips its power from a decent 2,000mAh battery. Both Micromax and BSNL have been working with an aim to bring the next wave of unconnected users on the Internet.

"With the Rs 97 plan offered by BSNL with the Bharat 1, I believe the network provider will be able to make its mark with this offering in the competitive telecom industry", said Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha at the event. The CMD of BSNL, Anupam Shrivastava commented on this matter, "We are proud that we are partnering with Micromax, a home-grown player on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras. We are confident that Bharat 1 will help millions of users experience the data and calling experience like never before".
