By all accounts out of TIFF, this most James Franco of joints defied all odds, obliterated cynicism, and over-emoted its way into the crowd's heart.

For Dave, The Disaster Artist finally "felt like the right time and the right project and the right dynamic" to accommodate both brothers' talents in the same film. In the trailer, we get a look at Sestero and Wiseau's unique friendship and their shared quest for Hollywood glory that led them to make their own movie together. If we're going to be busy this award season celebrating Gary Oldman's transformation into Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, then we also have to do the same for Franco becoming Wiseau.

Now, we're getting a movie about writer/director Tommy Wiseau and the process by which he developed and starred in The Room.

Sometimes life imitates art, and sometimes art imitates, well, The Room. There are also a couple of callbacks to The Room in the trailer as well, including some awkward football throwing and Wiseau's insistence that he has to show his ass to sell the movie. Rather than exist as the butt of the joke, he decided to make the joke his own.

Reviews for The Disaster Artist have been generally positive. Though the movie has yet to be released, The Disaster Artist has enjoyed early critical buzz and even some serious Oscar attention when it was screened earlier this year in some film festivals.
