Instagram Stories, on the other hand, has managed to rise in extreme popularity, even surpassing Snapchat's daily active users, which is where Facebook copied the feature from.

The test, which was first spotted by The Next Web's Matt Navarra via Twitter user Mário Rui André, is now being run with small number of Instagram users in at least Portugal. Of course, Instagram's move is aimed at driving more users to Facebook Stories.

"We're always exploring new ways for people to connect and have conversations, so we are testing new features on comments", said a spokesperson,"a Facebook spokesperson told the site". The feature has been a hit on Instagram and has also seemingly managed to stunt Snapchat's user growth. Now, it looks like Instagram Stories is being tested to appear right inside the main Facebook app, as well. "We have no other plans to share at this time", an Instagram spokesperson said in an official statement, as per Mashable.

YouTube, which saw both its user base and the portion getting news there grow in 2017, is now the second most common social media site for news.

This type of new feature may seem a bit odd, but it may indicate a problem with the integration of the Snapchat feature on the main Facebook app. However, enthusiastic Instagram users are bound to like it, as it'll let them avoid the Facebook app without offending relatives.

However it seems that Facebook is still trying to make Stories on its platform happen.

According to research carried out, 60pc of people that use the stories feature are using it with the "voice-on", making it a potentially very powerful way for businesses to interact with consumers.
