Indian reporter Gauri Lankesh shot dead

"It is an extremely sad moment for our democracy and a chilling reminder of the fact that intolerance and bigotry is raising its ugly head in our society", she said.

Gauri Lankesh, a senior journalist from Karnataka has been shot dead on Tuesday and reports claim that right wing must be behind her death.

Lankesh's views were considered leftist and anti-Hindutva.

Lankesh, 55, was the daughter of famous poet-turned-journalist P Lankesh. I will always remember her as she had been my colleague during journalist days. "Her courage will continue to inspire". We did not have any information about a death treat to her.

"The prime minister is a skilled Hindutva politician".

Commenting on the killing of Gauri Lankesh, the Congress leader said, "It is a philosophy.anybody who speaks against the ideology of BJP and RSS, is pressurised, beaten, attacked and even killed". "She was a renowned journalist, who fought against injustice". She had also flagged the issue of propaganda on social media and urged like-minded people to stay united against their "biggest enemy". She courted trouble with an article against BJP leaders and was sentenced to six months in jail in a defamation case filed by Dharwad Lok Sabha MP Pralhad Joshi and party leader Umesh Dushi. "One of the bullets punctured her heart and she died immediately".

"The police must investigate whether she was killed because of her journalism", she said. But this led to her making a wide range of enemies across the system.

"One of my reporters went to Shivakumar's constituency of Sathnur, and found that people with documents and papers literally coming out of the woodwork, wanting to expose the man". They will also collect CCTV footage along the route to find if she was followed. Some Hindu fringe groups had been accused of killing the rationalists.

Similar protests held across the state.

According to home minister Reddy, a few neighbours in the quiet residential area, dotted with plush homes, heard the shots but thought they were firecrackers.

"Who is behind the incident, is it the Naxals or any other ideological fringe parties were behind the incident will be known only after investigation".

A Press Trust of India (PTI) report said that Lankesh was opening the entry gate to her residence when she was shot dead by the "motorcycle-borne assailants" in the state capital Bangalore.

"I have spoken to the chief minister and the general secretary of the AICC. Culprits should be nabbed at the earliest".

"This is shocking news".

"Condemn killing of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh".

Indrajit further added, "I don't know how to react". It also asked how long will it take to bring Gauri's murderers to book.

Her brother Indrajit demanded that the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation, India Today reported. It is a heinous crime committed by communal forces in Karnataka.
