Barcelona to sue Neymar for alleged breach of contract

The club released a statement saying; "The club demands the player return the already paid sum as he has not completed his contract".

The Catalan club said on Tuesday they believe they are owed money that Neymar received as part of a renewal bonus when he signed a new contract previous year, in addition to €8.5m in damages plus interest.

Neymar is being sued for NZ$13.7m by his former club, Barcelona, over a bonus he was paid nine months before he left for PSG.

Neymar has revealed his disappointment towards Barcelona's board during his time with the club following PSG's 6-2 win over Toulouse.

Earlier this month, the Catalan giants saw Neymar depart for Paris Saint-Germain, who met the €222million ($330M) release clause in the player's contract, smashing the world transfer record in the process.

"Paris Saint-Germain reiterates that, like Neymar Jr, it has always respected all applicable laws and rules in its dealings and, once again, regrets the attitude of FC Barcelona". They also want an additional 10 per cent interest.

On Sunday, the home squad scored four times in the last 15 minutes of play, and Neymar, apart from scoring twice, participated in two of his team's other goals and provided two assists.

"The club also requests Paris Saint-Germain take on responsibility for the payment of these fees if the player can not do so himself", it said.

The timing and force of Neymar's comments seemed odd at the time, but they now make flawless sense in light of Barcelona's lawsuit.

"Barcelona made a decision to take these actions in defence of their interests, after a unilateral termination of contract urged by Neymar Jr a few months after signing the renewal until the end of the year 2021", a statement read. "For me, they are not the people who should be there, for the direction of Barca. I am getting better physically and I can still improve yet", the 25-year-old said.
