Wawrinka crushes Cilic to reach French Open semis

Andy Murray shrugged of a sluggish start, staging a comeback on Thursday for a 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-0), 6-1 defeat of Kei Nishikori and a place in his fourth straight French Open semifinal. Wawrinka, meanwhile, is 11-2 against quarterfinal opponent No. 7 Marin Cilic, who was leading 6-3, 3-0 when Kevin Anderson stopped because of an injured left hamstring.

Murray's clash with Wawrinka is a repeat of the 2016 semi-final in Paris, which the Brit won in four sets.

"If someone had offered me a semi-final spot before the tournament, I would have signed up for that because I was not playing well at all and practice also pretty awful", said Murray, who will next play at the Aegon Championship at Queen's Club - an event he's won a record fives times in the last eight years.

"I came in playing garbage", Murray said.

On the other side of the draw, Rafael Nadal will face Dominic Thiem after the latter ousted Djokovic 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 6-0.

Nishikori said: "We have been playing so many times". Murray is constantly conducted in the account, made five breaks and twice lost his serve.

The Briton remonstrated with the official before returning to the action, fired by injustice, roaring "Let's go!" as he clinched the game.

"But I broke the following game".

"Then he forced me to play backhand first, and then he sliced me".

Because of showers and heavy wind much of the afternoon, the two men's singles matches on Tuesday's schedule have been moved to Wednesday: No. 4 Nadal vs.

"Obviously now I beat Novak. Then stood up and I felt like I had black in my eyes".

"So I was frustrated about it, but I don't know how much impact that had".

Nadal, Thiem and Wawrinka are yet to drop a set this tournament while Murray has lost three, and their build-ups were rather different too. The 26-year-old led 5-2 in the final set before Svitolina rallied to race away with the last five games. However, it has been a dream run for Martic, from playing playing qualifiers at a pocket-money claycourt tournament on sub-standard courts in Italy to reaching the fourth round of a Grand Slam.

Nadal stands two wins from another trophy as title odds improve for the 31-year-old.

The last teenager to advance to the semifinals at Roland Garros was Ana Ivanovic 10 years ago. "I have hit the ball cleaner and started to see the right shots at the right moments", said Murray, who became the 15th man with 650 tour-level match victories and has a.782 career winning percentage. The first set was tough, lasting an hour and a quarter. He was in that position again after taking a crucial third set 7-0 in a tie-break Nishikori will certainly want to forget in a hurry.

Murray's display will not give Wawrinka any sleepless nights, but he will remember how outstandingly well the world number one played to beat him in four sets in last year's semi-final.
