US Air Force shot down Syrian combat drone in southern Syria

"This is the same location where another pro-regime UAV dropped munitions near Coalition forces before it was shot down, June 8", the US military says.

OIR said that that armed drone "displayed hostile intent and advanced on coalition forces".

The incident closely followed Sunday's USA downing of a piloted Syrian army jet in the southern Raqqa countryside after it dropped bombs near US-backed forces.

The US-led coalition conducted what the Pentagon said was a "show of force" - a reported buzzing of the pro-government troops by jets - to stop the attack and then called the Syrian government's ally, Russia, to try to "de-escalate the situation and stop the firing".

Pentagon spokesperson Navy Capt. Jeff Davis said the U.S.is not aware of who was manning the drone, but noted that Iran has sold the Shaheed-129 drone to the Syrian government under Bashar al-Assad and the Lebanese militia Hezbollah.

In response to the downing of the Syrian plane, Russian Federation warned that it would target any American and coalition planes that flew west of the Euphrates River.

"As a precautionary measure, Australian Defence Force strike operations into Syria have temporarily ceased", a defence spokeswoman said.

The U.S. -led global coalition said Sunday, according to CNN, that it will remain focused to fighting the Islamic State, but will defend itself. Moscow has not received any explanations from Washington over the downing of the Syrian Air Force Su-22 warplane by the US-led coalition, except those that were expressed publicly, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

Tanf is the town on Syrian border with Jordan where U.S. troops are training Syrian rebels, officially described as "partner ground forces".

USA forces said the drone was sacked on after it "displayed hostile intent and advanced on coalition forces", U.S. forces said in a statement. It is the second Iranian drone shot down by the U.S.in less than a month.

Suspension is "precautionary measure" amid rising tensions between Russian Federation and United States over downing of a Syrian jet. Israeli security officials said Monday they were studying the missile strike to see what they could learn about its accuracy and capabilities.

The Syrian army said the plane was hit while on a mission against IS Jihadists and warned of "the grave consequences of this flagrant aggression". "When the armed UAV continued to advance on the Coalition position without diverting its course it was shot down".

A U.S. senator has warned against the United States' measures in Syria, which is pushing Washington "closer and closer" to a military conflict with Iran and Russian Federation, describing the move as "another mistake on the scope of the Iraq War".

Frants Klintsevich, deputy head of the defense committee in Russia's upper house of parliament, said the defense ministry statement does not mean there will be war with the U.S.in Syria, but rather that Moscow will not accept attacks on its Syrian allies.

Syrian and Iranian-backed ground forces also have been gathering in the desert region.
