North Korea says it tested new anti-ship missile

The aim of the missile test, the statement said, was to confirm the functionality of the rocket and the caterpillar pad vehicle carrying it, as well as the weapon system combat application. This was the fifth weapons test this month.

North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) announced on June 9 that the communist state had test-launched a new type of cruise missile capable of striking US and South Korean warships off its coast.

The same year, South Korea said that it had found three alleged North Korean drones in border towns.

Pyongyang has test-fired several missiles this year, with the latest on Thursday when it launched several anti-ship cruise missiles from its southeastern coast - its 10th missile test of the year.

Thursday's launches came after two US aircraft carriers deployed to waters off the Korean Peninsula as a show of force, recently left the Sea of Japan after holding joint exercises with Self-Defense Forces ships and fighter jets.
