"The liaison will go through to the 2022 World Cup".

"I spoke with Leo and we're both excited", Sampaoli was quoted as saying by BBC.

"The difficulty in the qualifiers is real: Argentina is not qualified, but we know we have the resources for that", he said.

Jorge Sampaoli has officially been named Argentina's new manager.

Argentina now lie fifth in their qualification group and only the top four automatically go through to the finals.

Sevilla announced last week they had reached an agreement with the Argentinian Football Association and handed them a deadline of June 1 to complete the deal.

"It is a dream that I cherished for ages".

The first competitive match for the new management will take place in August in a World Cup qualifying game in Uruguay. The team is also boosted by the return of Lionel Messi.

"Playing a World Cup is complicated", said Sampaoli.

"Messi? We want the best player in the world to feel happy here", he began.

A few months ago Sampaoli was hotly linked with the Barcelona job, which has since gone to Ernesto Valverde, while he's previously been linked with a switch to England with Chelsea and Arsenal.

He said: "This is a very important time for our football". "I want to get back to talent and the art of dribbling, in order to move forward".

"Sevilla FC wishes Jorge Sampaoli luck and success in his new professional adventure and thanks him for the services done during the 2016-17 campaign".

Sampaoli will travel to Melbourne on Friday morning to begin coaching the squad ahead of two worldwide friendlies.

Sampaoli will make his debut in charge of Argentina against their arch-rivals Brazil in Melbourne on June 9 before his side move on to face Singapore in another friendly on June 13.
