Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri has termed the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to probe Panama Leaks scam the election cell of the PML-N which is writing the script for next polls.

According to the summons document, seen by Reuters, JIT asked the Prime Minister's office to bring "all relevant record/documents/material" to the interview at its office in the capital, Islamabad on Thursday.

His eldest son Hussain was questioned five times while Hasan, the younger son was summoned twice. It has grilled the prime minister's sons several times. State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed the development and said the prime minister would appear before the investigation team on Thursday and present financial records sought by the panel.

The summon was issued to Sharif after he returned from his Kazakhstan visit where he attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

It was also murmured that finance minister Ishaq Dar would also be summoned during the current week as his name echoed during the hearing of Panama case in connection with Hudaibya Paper mills case.

Sharif, in Lahore, met with his close confidantes on Sunday to discuss the issue.

The JIT is 35 days into the two months it has been given by the Supreme Court to finish the probe.

Sharif, who has denied allegations of wrongdoing, has been under investigation since 2016 by the Supreme Court. It is not yet clear that Sharif will be questioned for once or would be called again like his two sons.

"No government or court can take action merely on the basis of doubts and allegations", he said.

The probe, linked to the release of the Panama Papers, focused on millions of dollars Sharif's family holds in offshore assets and whether he lied to authorities about it.

The six-member JIT had also prepared an inquiry report on the Hussain Nawaz photo leak, which was submitted to the bench.
