The incoming Vegas Golden Knights can begin to take shape now that they know who's available to them.

The Golden Knights must choose one player - no more, no less - from each of the other 30 teams.

The Blackhawks have the option of protecting eight skaters or protecting seven forwards and three defensemen, and we're leaning toward the second option for the team.

"It's a part of the reason we like this trade", Yzerman said of the deal, which netted Mikhail Sergachev, a high-upside defensive prospect who is exempt from exposure to Vegas. The selections will be announced Wednesday during the NHL Awards Show from Las Vegas.

Nashville GM David Poile said he has spoken with McPhee and that the Predators "will do the best we can to protect as many assets as we can".

On Sunday, the National Hockey League is set to reveal each team's protected lists for the Vegas Golden Knights' expansion draft Wednesday.

Defenseman Klas Dahlbeck, who was signed to a one-year, $850,000 contract after the season, could be the D-man exposed. Francis may not have made any noise yet, but with 10 draft picks and a stated goal of improving the roster, the fireworks are perhaps on the horizon.

Thornton had a cap hit of $6.8 million and Marleau $6.7 million in the last of three-year deals.

As this lost season drags on, and even the ice grows exhausted of the Edmonton Oilers skating on it, I'm noticing more goals against where the entire Oilers team just doesn't look sharp.

Even if the Golden Knights don't sign any unrestricted free agents by Wednesday night, this serves as a sort of first negotiating advantage for them before the first day of free agency on July 1.

Among those left unprotected, and available to the Golden Knights in the draft, were goalies Cam Ward and Eddie Lack, forwards Lee Stempniak and Joakim Nordstrom, and defenseman Klas Dahlbeck.

Lewis: Hard-worker, good team guy, reasonable contract, good fit for Vegas. The team also listed Trevor Carrick, Justin Faulk and Ryan Murphy as their defensemen, and new goalie Scott Darling in net.

Several reports have the Knights obtaining Columbus' first-round draft pick, the 24th overall, in exchange for bypassing in selecting a Blue Jackets player from a short list.

"Sometimes at 3 a.m., I wake up and remind myself, 'You can only lose one player, go back to sleep, '" Fletcher told reporters earlier this week.

The NHL's roster freeze kicks in today at 3pm ET, upon which teams can not finalize trades with one another until June 22 at 8am ET. "They only need a couple, and there's opportunities for trades from that perspective".
