The Daily Caller said it had confirmed three of the names: Brooks, South Carolina Congressman Jeff Duncan and Arizona Congressman Trent Franks.

Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., and four others were injured in the shooting before U.S. Capitol Police fatally shot Hodgkinson. Among those was House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana, who remains hospitalized after undergoing several surgeries after being shot in the hip.

The rifle-wielding 66-year-old, who died during the attack, had a history of anger aimed at Republican officials.

The officials said investigators don't know what the list of names means, but members of Congress have been briefed.

A spokeswoman for Capitol Police did not return CNN's request for comment.

The Democrats won 11-2, then turned right around and gave the trophy to the Republican team to put in Scalise's office.

Duncan has said he spoke with Hodgkinson just before the shooting.

The wife of the Alexandria, Virginia, gunman said she's shocked about the attack and had no idea what her husband was planning.

Suzanne Hodgkinson said that her husband had moved to the Washington, D.C., area in March to "work with people to change the tax brackets".

He remained in critical condition on Thursday, CBS News reported. "There's still a lot of things that can happen, there's still a lot of forks in the road that we may not even see yet", Sava said.

The FBI is still investigating the case and is looking through Hodgkinson's belongings, including his cellphone, computer and camera.

President Donald Trump called Griner and another officer who responded to the shooting, officer David Bailey, heroes.
