The Peace Officers Memorial Day occurs annually on May 15 which was designated by President John F. Kennedy in 1962.

Speaking on Capitol Hill on Peace Officer Memorial Day, Trump said policemen performed under "the most hard conditions" and met danger often without any recognition.

As the state's chief law enforcement officer, Fox expressed his gratitude for the hard work and sacrifices made by all branches of law enforcement. "It's just a nice way to honor their sacrifice and the commitment of the cops moving forward", said Parizek.

The 36th Annual National Peace Officers' Memorial Service happened Monday on the West Front of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Several officers said that by the end of the week, they hoped to visit the National Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial itself, where there are several newly etched names in the marble.

Monday's event for fallen officers in Putnam County came on the second day of this year's National Police Week.

"Thank you for sharing your fathers and your sons and your brothers with us", Lee County District Attorney Brandon Hughes said.

US President Donald Trump lit the White House with blue lights honouring slain police officers, the media reported. They died keeping us safe.

Trump says it is his duty as president to keep America safe "from crimes, safe from terrorism and safe from all enemies — foreign and domestic".

More officers were killed in ambushes last year than any year in the past two decades, he said, citing the examples of Dallas, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, among others.

"We mourn these fallen officers, we are here because these men and women gave their very lives for us".
